Miles advises clients involved in energy sector transactions and project proponents on acquisitions and divestitures, corporate transactions, and project structure and development.

He has led significant transactions in the upstream, midstream and oilfield service sectors, and has advised on virtually all aspects of the Liquefied Natural Gas value chain.

He has particular expertise in transactions involving engineering companies.

He has dealt extensively with alcohol regulation in Alberta.

He has played a lead role in significant restructuring transactions both within Canada and internationally.

Miles is the leader of BLG’s Asia Pacific initiative. He is also member of the firm's Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) leadership team.

Miles provides legal services through a Law Corporation.

  • Canadian counsel to John Wood Group plc in the US$1.8 billion sale of its environment and infrastructure consulting business to Canadian engineering firm WSP Global.
  • ALS in its acquisition of the consulting & exploration tech division from EarthLabs.
  • John Wood Group PLC in the US $67 million sale of its joint venture interest in TransCanada Turbines to joint venture partner TC Energy.
  • Wood Canada Limited, as shareholder of Teshmont Consultants LP, in their acquisition by Stantec Consulting Ltd.
  • The Government of Canada on its acquisition of the Trans Mountain Pipeline and Expansion from Kinder Morgan.
  • Entrada Resources Inc. on its acquisition of assets from Bonavista Petroleum Corporation.
  • Hardie & Kelly Inc., on its administration of the receivership of Quattro Exploration and Production Ltd.
  • Heavy Oil Solutions LLC in its transaction with Cenovus Energy Ltd.
  • Sprott Energy, on its disposition of assets to HXC Corporation and LTC Corporation.
  • Wanxiang America Corporation on its transaction with Accel Energy Canada Limited.
  • Wood Group on its Canadian operations, including the recent acquisitions of Beta Machinery and Controls, and Sunstone Projects.
  • Nexen Energy ULC (a subsidiary of CNOOC Limited) on ongoing matters.
  • Honeywell Limited, on ongoing matters.
  • Parkland Fuel Corporation, on ongoing matters.
  • China's ENN Group, with respect to its investment in the Douglas Channel LNG Project.
  • Pacific Energy Corp. (formerly Pacific Rubiales Energy) in its acquisition of Peruvian interests from BPZ Resources Ltd., and on other international upstream matters.
  • PetroChina Canada Corporation on numerous matters.
  • Bukit Energy Ltd., with respect to its farmout arrangements in Indonesia with Pacific Petroleum.
